Freedom on Wheels 24

Together with our friends at the Milwaukee County Transit System, ST Metro MKE hosted a bonus checkpoint at the Riverwest 24, the beloved all-night, all-day community building event and party disguised as a bike race. The annual ride occurs late every July and, the organizers will tell you, is not a race at all, but an event intentionally designed to generate interactions among neighbors and visitors alike. Participants ride laps, of course, but they’re also asked to give something back during the event. One way this is accomplished is by challenging riders and interested onlookers to bonus checkpoints.

Introducing bus bike racks, and Strong Towns Metro MKE, to riders in the Riverwest 24

On this particular Saturday morning, in a sometimes-pouring rain, employees of MCTS demonstrated how to rack a bicycle on a county bus and introduced cyclists to some bus basics. Tip of the hat to Daniel, Sara, and Will, who worked with both partner organizations to put this together. This is the second time our good relationship with MCTS has helped open eyes to transit; here was the first, and this one will not be the last.
